Author Biography

John Patrick Bray (Ph.D., Louisiana State University; M.F.A., Actors Studio Drama School at The New School) has written plays under grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Acadiana Center for the Arts (Lafayette, Louisiana). John’s plays have been produced Off-Off Broadway and in venues around the country. He has earned commissions from a number of organizations in South Louisiana, including The Dancing Project, Acadiana Repertory Theatre, the Louisiana Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, and the Performing Arts Society of Louisiana. Additionally, he has earned commissions from the Off-Off Broadway troupes, (re:)Directions Theatre Company and Rachel Klein Productions. John has been a member of The Actors Studio’s Playwrights/Directors Workshop, a PlayLabs participant with the Last Frontier Theatre Conference, a resident playwright with The Rising Sun Performance Company, a Guest Playwright with Epic Rep. Theatre at The Players’ Club, a Visiting Artist with O’Neill Studios, and a finalist for a playwriting residency at the Hangar Theatre. John is a member of The Dramatists Guild of America, Inc. As a scholar, John has presented his research with the American Society for Theatre Research (ASTR), the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE), the Mid-America Theatre Conference (MATC), among other national and regional conferences. He also has an article published with Platform (UK).
